Stay Gold

Placemaking | Mural Design

This mural was created as a response to the bleak, boarded up streets that were a byproduct of Covid-19. Part of a broader initiative, Color Speaks, myself and a group of designers were curious how color and messages of optimism could affect the urban environment and instill a sense of optimism within our communities. Located outside of a local bar, Montana, this mural embodies their ethos of “Stay Gold” by creating in an abstract message comprised of numerous windows with golden suns in various positions. The intent was also to remind Seattleites that sunny days were coming.

Beyond the individual murals created for the effort, the collaboration also produced a free downloadable tool kit (containing a list of necessary supplies, “paint-by-number” guide, and helpful tips) that walked the public through the process of painting their own murals.
